Statement of Organization and Purpose for the
Board of Advisors of the
Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum

 

PURPOSE

Assist in the solicitation of gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Assist in developing and implementing a long-term strategic action plan. Assist the Arboretum with technical expertise regarding plant acquisition, evaluation and promotion.

MEMBERSHIP

Members are selected by the executive committee based on interest and willingness to serve. An advisory board member serves a three-year term. Renewal is subject to approval by the executive committee.

OFFICERS

1) The officers of the board of advisors will constitute the executive committee.

2) The executive committee will include a chair, a vice chair, a treasurer and a secretary.

3) The Director of the SFASU Mast Arboretum will be a voting member of the Executive Board.

4) The chair of the executive committee shall preside at all regular meetings of the board of advisors.

5) Officers will serve two years; the vice-chair will succeed the chair.

6) The executive committee will be empowered to make decisions for the advisory board and to create committees.

SELECTION

During the first year, the officers of the board of advisors should be elected by the established membership. In all years following, nominees for officers composing the executive committee will be presented and voted on by the Board of Advisors during the annual business meeting. In case an officer is unable to finish an elected term, the executive committe will have the right to appoint a willing member of the board of advisors to serve in the vacated position.

MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Attend a minimum of one meeting per year.

2) Actively participate in the functioning of the board and supporting the arboretum’s mission.

3) Be available for individual consultation to the executive director.

 

These by-laws can be amended by a simple majority of the board of advisors at the annual business meeting.
